My first trip to Sedona, Arizona. I was returning from an interview with Utah State University (the job I eventually accepted), and instead of going straight home I decided to fly into Phoenix for a sightseeing trip with one of my oldest friends Jeff. We took his vintage trailer to Sedona, where we camped in the desert beneath some amazing red rock cliffs, and then hiked Oak Creek Canyon the next day. I felt I was living some in an Old West movie, the terrain was amazing, and sitting around a campfire in the middle of the desert surrounded by sage, juniper, greasewood, and cactus was pretty surreal. To top it off, Jeff played traditional "cowboy" music (Roy Rogers, Gene Autry), and all that was missing was a harmonica. :)
Oak Creek Canyon was amazing (most of the pics below are from there) and Sedona was an amazing place. We left there for the Grand Canyon, but that's another post. If you're ever in Phoenix and want to see the Old West, I highly recommend Jeff as a tour guide!
